Suzanne Pritchard

Suzanne practices with the law firm of McCann & Geschke, P.C. where she focuses her practice on Orphan’s Court litigation, primarily guardianships and emergency medical treatment issues, as well as the defense of medical malpractice cases.

Suzanne has had an active Orphan’s Court practice since 1992. Her practice includes litigating all aspects of guardianships in Orphans’ Court in Philadelphia, Delaware and Montgomery Counties. Suzanne works with individuals as well as consulting with area organizations including nursing homes, area agencies on aging and hospitals/health systems. She advises individuals and assists them with the preparation of powers of attorney, living wills, advance health care directives. She is called upon frequently by the court to act as court-appointed counsel for unrepresented parties or as guardian because of her expertise in this area of the law. Suzanne has provided representation to individuals in seeking appointment of a guardian for individuals who can no longer manage their own affairs and has also assisted family members in fulfilling their duties when acting as court-appointed guardian. Suzanne also handles guardianships and emergency medical treatment issues for some of the area’s premiere health care providers, and is consulted frequently with regard to patient care issues. Suzanne is also a frequent lecturer on various topics related to medical decisionmaking guardianship. Suzanne is also participating in the preparation of a handbook for guardians for distribution by the Probate Section of the Bar Association.

Suzanne has 18 years experience as a litigator. She has handled the defense of medical malpractice claims including nursing, physician and hospital cases both at the arbitration and major jury level throughout her career in both the state and Federal court systems.

Suzanne received her B. M.Ed. cum laude from Temple University in 1976. Prior
to becoming an attorney, Suzanne was a teacher in the Montgomery County, Maryland, public schools. Suzanne subsequently received her J.D., with honors,
in 1989 from Rutgers School of Law – Camden. She is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania as well as before the United States District Court for the Eastern
District of Pennsylvania. A member of the Elder Law Section of the Philadelphia Bar Association, Suzanne also serves on the Community College of Philadelphia Paralegal Advisory Board and the board of Philadelphia Area Society for Risk Management (PASHRM) where she is co-chairing the programs committee.
